Hi,
I live in the North of Scotland and was wondering what time do the Adders go into hibernation and when they come out, i have never seen one in the live, though i did remember last summer out in the woods and i felt a sharp sting to my lower leg, and i noticed one and one quite faint red marks on my leg, also where am i more likely to see one, i go running and cycling in the woods and hills quite a lot.

You can find particular information about the snake on various websites and in books. Several exhaustive studies have been done on this snake and I don't think you will have any problem locating information. As for your concerns about snakebite while you are running, use common sense. Use hiking and jogging trails, look where you are stepping, avoid heavy brush,etc...I think you will be fine.
