Snake bite in Texas in January? Possible??

My son's dog looks to have been snake bitten. Has the two fang marks and has most of the snake bite symptoms. I'm very concerned because I have 3 grandkids here playing outside all the time. I live in the city of Waco, Tx. Is it possible a snake has bitten this time of year in Central Texas and what kind could it be?
