That's odd, for all the years that I worked with Crocks and Gators, I never realised that they are venomous (L.O.L.).
I just had to get that opne in....this is a Hot (=venomous) Herp forum is it not?
Regards,
Paul

See, learn something new everyday (LOL).

Well Paul, the fact is that the majority of our members, and visitors alike, do not keep venomous herps exclusively. So we allow a pretty wide latitude in the ads and the forum questions as the long as the topic is at least related to reptiles. We even field quite a few questions/comments/ads regarding venomous arachnids. You might be surprised to find out what-all some of the people who come here keep.
One of our biggest goals has been to not disregard or disenfranchise any specific segment of the general herp community.
Cheers,
Karl H. Betz

Snakeman, that was completely uncalled for. If this couple truely have a zoo-type facility, I hope that you feel extremely stupid. You have no reason whatsoever to jump the gun like that. I can't stand people that run their mouth before they know the facts. Its on the immature and unprofessional side as well if you ask me.
I understand if it was a simple overreacted mistake...but thats how myself, and probably mostly everyone here feel about these things.
Irish, do you have any pics of the facility? Id be curious to see some of your setups.
Thanks
Chris

OK, I’m sorry, but it was a light-hearted JOKE !!!
Please believe me when I say that I fully understand what is like to keep and work with a wide range of different creatures. I grew up in a home surrounded by all sorts of exotics, everything from spiders & snakes to large eagles. Both my Father and myself worked at Chester zoo. I was there for 14 years and although I worked on the reptile section, we always had opportunity to get close to all sorts of different animals.
I have spent vacation time volunteering at a small zoo in Cameroon (3 trips), they only held a small number of snakes and crocodiles and were mainly dealing with primates but I joined in, caring for these animals, cleaning, feeding and catching them when they escaped. I also spent time wrangling cattle at a research centre.
It might be true that I only work with venomous snakes, but I still keep close links with most of the UK zoos and safari parks. I chair the local branch of the International Herpetological Soc. and we have a wide range of members from those youngsters who are just starting out to private DWAL holders and vets etc. Ok, I might have an exclusive job (being the only person working fulltime and exclusively with venomous
in the UK) but I’m sure that many people will vouch that I am very approachable, friendly and always go out of my way to help others no matter what they keep.
Other people helped and encoraged me as a youngster and I see it as part of my duty to look after and help the next generation of keepers.
My faults ? well I guess some people don’t understand my sense of humor.
Regards, Paul

There are also many many more dogs in captivity than Gators. That is like saying more people die from car wrecks than airplanes, and once again there are 1,000,000 to 1 cars than planes in the sky.
