what does F1,F2, etc. mean? You commonly see posts for animals for sale as F1, F2, etc. I have even seen this used for cattle. I assume it has to do with the generation but don't really know.

It's like this: P1 means parental generation, F1,2,3 etc.. means filial generation. How this is used: P1 would be your original starting group, usually wild caught when a herp breeder is using the term, but not necessarily. The subsequent F generations are the offspring of this crossing. Genereation 1, 2,3...etc...
