I was wondering if anyone knew if there have been any people hurt by "other peoples" hot herps in the US - particularly SC. If not, why the interest in regulation?

None that I have ever heard of. Usually the only ones that get injured are the keepers themselves. The parties responsible for these legislations are often not herp educated people and alot of the time they don't even pay attention to the statistics or bother to research these matters properly. They play to the publics (and their own)unfounded fear of these animals.

I asked this same question a while back on another forum. Other than one recent story of some brain sergion who intentionally allowed his pet cottonmouth to free roam his house resulting in his girlfriend being bitten, soone was aware of a case of an escaped hot biting anyone other than the keeper...anywhere...ever.

Currently there are no documented cases of an escaped hot harming a third party. There is the afore mentioned cotton mouth incident and there was a case in AZ where a man draped his rattlesnake around his daughter’s neck and she was bitten. This one was a fatality and the man was prosecuted for it.
