In response to the latest anonymous post. "They will never use human blood components to treat snakebite victims." Ever hear of Bill Haast. A great number of years ago some kid in South America, not sure where, got bit by a some snake, not sure which. They used Bill's blood, which is packed with immunities, by means of blood transfusion to save the kids life. So your statement isn't true. Whether it will save thousands or not, I don't know. I am not concerned about how many people that snakes can save. My focus is on how many snakes can people save.
Somebody back me up on the details. I don't have my references with me in Florida.
Any one out there have the book "Cobras in his Garden"?
Anyway, I heard this somewhere and can certainly find it again when I get back to the University, if no one else backs me up with the proper info.

SI is not approved by the FDA. As stated many times by real researchers doing peer reviewed research. The risks out weigh the benefit.
Also human blood products are illegal to ship without special FDA approval.
Bill's blood was used over 40 years ago and there is no scientific proof that it had anymore effect then any other treatment. Because assaying of bites was not available at the time.(Find a Doctor willing to lose his practice and get sued by using human blood)
The most famous bite his blood was suppose to have cure was a krait bite to the owner of the old Snake Farm. The victim had been on an iron lung for several days so did the blood cure or did the iron lung just keep him alive until the venom effects pasted. No one will no for sure. What we are sure of is that antisera does work and a good snakebite protocal is what is best.
I have worked with many countries on venom production and education on snakebite treatment over the years .
Many different things have been tried including SI and Toxiod treatments. Antisera is still the only medically approved treatment worldwide.

Besides, there is no better treatment than good handling skills. Responsible behavior. A good envenomation protocol. Antivenom.
One rule of thumb with venomous snakes. There are no accidents, only mistakes. We are human and thus make mistakes, but venomous snakes, much like an electrician (or any other hobby/job with risks) is an art of perfection!
