What is the best
venomous snake to
start out with? I've
had nonvenomous
snakes for about 5
years, from boas to rat
snakes.

Copperheads are always a good one to start with. They are easy to care for and not overly toxic.Do your homework and be careful.

I would agree with a copperhead. Although maybe not a neonate as sometimes I've had difficulty getting them to eat.Buy one that you know has been eating and you should be OK.A dusky pygmy wouldn't be a bad choice either but they tend to be a little more ornery than coppers. My first hot was a cottonmouth. They're not bad snakes to deal with, but the venom is more potent. Do alot of research first and try to find someone that already has hots and ask alot of questions.Best of luck, Marty
