Davidson College is apparently hard to get into but if you do they have an excellent herpetology/biology program. I wasn't really impressed with the immediate level of herp. diversity around Davidson or at their research site but the students and professors that work there are some of the best at the undergraduate level. They do a lot of research and you will get plenty of experience for furthering your career as a biologist or grad. student. Dr. Michael Dorcas is the main herpetologist there and is very well known in the herpetological community and apparently a nice but intense instructor who expects a lot out of his students. He would be a huge asset to anyone studying under him because he can get your foot in the door to a lot of places and will teach you what you need to know in herpetology.

I am not sure about NC State. There are plenty of herpetologists around in most Universities though so you may be able to find other states that have programs too, if you can't get into Davidson.
Good luck,

By the way Adam,
I am not sure if you know this or not, but there are no Universities where you can major in herpetology (I wish). You have to get a bachelor's in either biology or zoology but many Universities have a class that you can take in Herpetology. This means that you will have to take chemistry, botany, physics, ecology, etc... classes as well as what you are directly interested in. Plus, you'll have to take general requirement classes (non-biological), which are a joke and take up a lot of time.
I was very disappointed to find this out my senior year in high school, as I thought that I could get an actual degree in herpetology. I asked around to a few herpetologist and found out that it wasn't so.
