I need some advice on my first venomous snake. I've caught and kept snakes since I was in kindergarten, usually northern watersnakes or black rats. I'm interested in finding and keeping either a timber or copperhead. I know copperheads are less venomous than Timbers, but how do their temperments compare? I would like something relatively easy to handle since I'll be learning. Also, which adapts to captivity better?
And lastly, I need to find some good spots within a reasonable distance of either Charleston or Morgantown. I have a decent spot for coppers where I live, neighbors found at least 4 last summer just doing yardwork. If anyone lives in WV I'd appreciate any advice you could offer on spots (esp. around morgantown), doesnt even have to be for venomous snakes. If you know of some just email me hstanto1@mix.wvu.edu. Thanks a lot.

My advice is..wait to get your first venomous snake. Learn from someone who keeps them first, do you know anyone? This is the best way to see and learn what it requires to keep venomous snakes. Learn from someone with experience for a while first...good luck!
