Yes, WOW! cool...I find it exciting too...however..
Maybe need to sell the wife & children to buy them...LOL
Here is a page from CSL's Handbook on it's antivenoms.
http://www.toxinology.com/generic_static_files/cslavh_antivenom_taipan.html
It says "5-8 vials rarely more" so if I was gone keep them I would have a dozen on hand. They do not mention the cost.
Remember when "messing" with snakes with "pre-synaptic" neurotoxins you are running the real risk of PERMINANT neurological damage. Some of the toxins are not reversed by Antivenom.
Best,
Al

No kidding, Sell off everything you have to get them. But, if you could get 12 baby's the first time you could make your money back. I would love to think I was ready for such a great snake But, I am not.
Not only for handling/keeping them but, for the cost of all the med. that would come with a bite from one. Buy the snakes for 12,000. and get bite and have 100,000. -200,000. in med. bills. And still die. Leaving my wife to pay that bill..........
No thanks...

Obviously, none of you are familiar with Globalherps' subsidary, Hank Molt Marketing.
Do you honestly believe that if he did in fact have all of those animals in his possession, he wouldn't have the biggest table at every show?
He is an old time broker. He only ever has a few animals actually on hand, the rest is just stuff that he could potentially get from someone else.
Call and ask him if he has ever been charged with wildlife violations...

All I know is that I spent almost 2 years sorting through the red tape and beuracracy involved in aquiring our 2.2......and the major stipulation involved was that those 2.2 and ANY offspring EVER produced were still controlled by Environment Australia. One major requirement was that none of them ever fell into the private sector or be commercialized! Even if I attempted to transfer one to any MAJOR zoo, they would have to go through the EXACT same paperwork process as I had to do that took me 2 years! Basically making it just as easy to get their own as to get one from me?
So who knows if some were out of Au. before they closed their borders, before they were classified as Oxyuranus.......
But no they are not "federally considered illegal" Australia has just made it extremely difficult to legally get them out of the country. So who knows.

I checked with CSL about the cost of Antivenom. I chose the polyvalent, so if the urge struck to keep other AU/PNG elapids, one would be covered across the board. Here's what they had to say"
"Thank-you for your inquiry regarding CSL's Polyvalent snake (Australia & PNG) Antivenom.
Please find attached a copy of the Patient Information leaflet and Consumer Information Leaflet, please note species of snake anti-venom.
I am pleased to confirm pricing as follows:
- Polyvalent snake (Australia & PNG) @AUD$1,907.14 each + freight.
- Freight is approx AUD$350-$400, to nearest International/Customs Airport. (Please confirm which airport and the quantities you want despatched for confirmation on freight cost).
The airfreight cost to USA includes cold transit packaging, which will maintain the product at 2 to 8 degrees for up to 48 hours. After 48 hours, the product must be stored in 2 to 8 degrees refrigeration."
I converted the currency and it would be about $1500 per dose and it would be a good idea to have 10 doses available. So were talking 12,000 for the herps and another $15,000 for the Antivenom. Thus an inital investment of $27,000!!! WoW!!

CSL Polyvalent commons in 40000 units which is about equal to 40 ml and most antisera comes in 10ml vials. Two to three vials of Polyvalent would treat most envenomations. But it is better to have more then less in this case.
