I just moved to West Texas a short while ago. I am near Alpine, Fort Davis and Big bend area. Can someone please point me in the right dirrection to hunt for rattlers. What is the best method for looking for them, road cruising, feilding or what? Also is there any laws or anything like that I should know about as far as hunting for snakes goes here in Texas? Any information would be great!!! Thanks in advance!!!

Big Bend/Alpine area is a great spot to roadcruise and see atrox, molossus, scuts, lepidus, and occasionally i have found viridis on Hwy 90 or 95 (i cant remember which one it is) East of Alpine. Just don't collect in Big Bend National Park as they are really strict on collection there (as they should be). FM 118 and River Road are good as well. Texas snakehunting requires a regular texas hunting license unless you want to possess more than 14 of a certain species or if you want to sell native snakes. Then I believe a dealer's permit is required. If I am in error someone please correct me, as this is what I was told earlier this year by a TPW officer. You can get the license for a little over 20 at Walmart or somewhere like that. Good luck!
