I believe that the croc hunter does his part in wildlife education and concervation he has done a very good job at educating people about reptiles and concervation while we dont including me think that his handling skills are what we think they should be on tv he is not on tv to show people how to handle venomous reptiles his there to teach about the reptile.the reason i say that is, he is not teaching handling skills to children or any body and he shouldnt be the right way or not i would never teach a child the proper way to handle a venomous snake cause they have no buisness handling them in the first place. i have seen him say many times dont try this at home and its the parents responsablity to let there kids know that people like him are professionals and if the child is to young to understand that than maybe there to young to be watching a probram like that. I feel that he has accompished more for wildlife conservation and education than anyone and i feel that he has a true passion for what he does and i will always support and admire a man like steve irwin. just my opinion.
Thanks,
shane

Good point Shane.
Could you imagine how hard it would be to film and talk about a venomous snake while trying to run along side them ? The handling of them is for the most part a must.
Hot keepers stress not handling a venomous reptile unless you really have to. But, How many of us hook and tail our snakes. (Most) I have learned that it is really for the best not to this and I do not make it a habit to do it much unless I need to. learning by your mistakes is a bad way to do it with venomous snakes....Fabian

"Check out his visit to the army base in Florida's Pan Handle. He totally free hands a pigmy rattlesnake. After that, he finds a yellow rat snake. Last time I checked they don't exactly make it over there."
It was an Air Force Base in California.
I have a hard time believing the Austin Stevens "jump in the pond" stint after the gaboon. First, he was in a hurry, but not "too" big of a hurry to dump his camera before jumping in. Second, I how often does a gaboon take a swim like that? Third, when you jump in like that, (and he splashed around quite a bit in a very sloppy entry) how is he going to grab the snake in a safe manner? In real life, his splash would have caused enough waves to have sent the gaboon in any number of possible directions, but would not have remained in place.
Maybe it's all possible, but it sure seemed fake to me.
Also, since we're discussing Austin's credibility, I don't know why finding a King Cobra was so hard. Unless I missed why he had to go to India, the King is so abundant in Thailand that finding one is easier than finding a cheap hooker in Naha.

Actually it is Eglin Air Force Base in the Panhandle of Florida just north of Ft. Walton Beach. I use to live there while my father was stationed there (military brat). It is one of the main Army Ranger Training Centers and is one of the largest military bases in the world thanks to the enormous amount of land that surrounds it. Awesome place for herps!
You might be thinking of a different episode or something if you are confused about California.

I was going to ask Does Cal. have pigmy rattlesnake ?
I thought they were mostly on the east coast. I do not know that much about them though... They live here in Ms.
That would seem it would be as much out of place as the yellow ratsnake..Am I wrong ????

It could very well be another episode I am thinking of, because the show I saw was in California, no doubt about it. The show I'm thinking about was where he caught a Sidewinder, the ultimate goal of his quest. Was there another show besides that one?
