I see quite a few alligators going up for
sale in the classifieds. I was just curious
as to what kind of environment these captives
are kept in. Don't get me wrong, I house many
herps, so I'm not saying it is wrong by any means.
I'm just rather curious about their captive
environments. What problems have people experienced?
Are there any success stories? Input would be
greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Will

I think there is some success with my all time favorite creature. I know a fellow who keeps an
adult female in a 15x15 climate controled room
with a baby pool and multible lights. She is pretty close to maxed out at 7 ft and is gentle as a kitten.
doesn't mean she isn't unpredictable, but has never acted aggesive towards humans in any way. From what I understand females are much easier to keep than males
in captivity due to size and temperment. What do you think about that? bigsnake daddy???He would probably
know.

I have kept many Alligators in captivity for education reasons..they are generally easy to keep and maintain, as they are very hearty creatures by nature. I totally do not agree with keeping Alligators at full size, unless they have plenty of room and can be outside (if not all year round, pretty close to it). In my opinion a 15x15 room is not adequate..although it is good, the gator needs and should have more room.
