I have a male NoseHorned or Long-Nosed Viper(Vipera ammodytes ammodytes) which I want to put 'in the cooler' for a couple of weeks so it would eat and mate afterwords. I have never put a snake to hibernate so far so I don`t know what conditions they must have to succsesfuly do that. Could any one tell me what is the best way to do this? Is it all right if I put the snake in a box with some substrate, a bowl of water and then in the fridge? Thanks, Alex S.

Hello,
Find out were they come from and then look to the weather conditions of about 12 months. You can easely see when it is winter and summer. I would hibernate the snake in the time as they would do in nature. All this information you can find in a Atlas or on the internet.
Good luck.

I know where the snake`s from. I caught it my self. The thing is it won`t eat and I want to hibernate it. I read that I could burmated any time of year for stimulating it to mate and also to eat afterwords. What should I put the snake into befor hibernating it?should it have water? soil for a substrate?
