This past Tuesday on Venom ER, they had a guy that was bitten by a Mojave Green. The kicker to it all was the bite didn't seem to affect him. He said that he has been drinking diluted venom for years. To my knowledge drinking venom will not--self immunize, if i am wrong somone please correct me. My own personal opinion is that this guy is a total idiot and that he was a waste of the shows time! I am just looking for other opinions.

You could drink raw venom full strength if you wanted to. It tastes terrible, but won't hurt. I would doubt seriously that it would offer any protection for a bite, however.

I saw that episode too. The venom is most likley distroyed by saliva & stomach acid. If you have bad teeth & gums or a ulcer you could envenomate yourself. Elapid venom is reported to be adsorbed into the blood stream by drinking it.
Just another wacko give legitimate keepers a bad rap...
Best,
Al

Mojave toxin can cause a possbile problem. Neurotoxins when ingested can possbily cause medical problems. Any injury to the mouth or stomach could make any venom dangerous to drink. Also snake venom is not very clean so the drinker could become ill from drinking it.
