I recently acquired my first Pigmy rattlesnake (second hot snake) and after all the reading I've done I was expecting a jumpy, bitey snake. I'm concerned about this one because it is far from that. In fact this snake is practically docile. It sits on the hook very well, never rattles, and even after having him for 2 days, it ate 2 pinkies. Did I just get lucky with this snake or could there be something wrong with it?

I dont think so. Snakes like all animals including humans have there own personalities. I have worked with the green anaconda and african rock pythons which are suposily extremly jumpy and aggressive but they were so docile and calm. I think you just got one that is docile and mabye just likes to feed.

Sal,
You dont have to worry. Pigmy's are one of the hardiest of all rattlers. I have caught both the calm and typical Pigmy with an attitude. Out of all the ones I have kept before, only one kept it's attitude. Good to see you did good in Apalachicola. By the way we just got back from a herping trip up in N FL. and S. GA and caught 3 Canebrake Rattlesnakes, 1 Dusky Pigmy Rattlesnake, 6 FL. Cottonmouths, and 2 Corn Snakes. Be safe and enjoy it.
