I would like to comment on this thread .Karl you may delete this so i'll keep it short i have kept venomous reptiles in the house with my wife and child i feel that if a person covers all the safty percautions the he or she would not put his or her family at risk i personally never felt that my family was in danger nor did my wife. i kept my snakes in a snake proof room with locked cages and locked door entering the snake room.
P.S On questions like this dont post Anonymous its hard to reply and not know who i'm replying to, maybe it's just me.

Well said Shane,
I also think that as long as you keep your hots in a locked safe room of there own and use the best of judgment while handling them with no kid in the danger zone you can keep hots and kids very safely. Most all the hot keepers I know have kids..........Fabian

Here's something to think about, in the last year (or even ten) not one child has been bitten by a captive venomous snake. How many have been bitten or even killed by their pet dogs. Get off the venomous snakes are evil and bad kick. Yes there are some idiots that don't take the proper precautions, but there are more that keep other pets they shouldn't. Next time ask the question with boas and pythons, it has a little more merit.

Hi All:
I stopped keeping Hots till my kids were old enough to understand not to messy\ with the snakes or cages in my den. Just like having fireams in the house..If you teach kids correctly then no problems should occur.
Just think of how many kids you hear on the new every year that accidently shoot themselves or a friend compared to a child bitten by there parents snakes. Does not seem to be a big problem.

I have two 9 foot boas that would be a greater threat to my upcoming child ( shes due in october) than that of a copperhead or a pygmy. in the proper enclosure, two strong snakes such as boas would be a greater flight risk than a timy snake would be, and would be at a point of actually confusing the child for food, than a little venomous snake that would be most likely interested in simply hiding. I really think that everyone is in the right mind except the person that posed the question ( sorry, not trying to turn you into the bad guy) that SAFETY is no substitue when it comes to a venomous snake, regardless of who is involved. I don't even own a venomous snake yet, but will have one prior to my child's birth. there is no way I'd risk my life or anyone else's jsut to have a snake or anyother pet. its like asking how many people own guns with children in the house.... there's a much more likely chance of an accident with either a gun or a hot snake (same difference to me, either can kill if handled improperly!) if its not stored properly!
