I know that most of us have taken one or two wild
caught specimens home before, but what does everyone
think about the classifieds add on this sight "Inventory For Trade" that lists about 30 wild caught specimens from 2004. Sure is alot of snakes to be taken out of the wild by one person.

I personally think that its wrong i dont think collecting for ones collection is wrong but to exploit animals that way is wrong i dont think it hurts the wild population much but if everybody does it it will deplete the population like with wc EDB's a few months ago i went in to a reptile show and seen deli cups full of wild snakes i think trying to profit from the wild isnt to ethical but thats just my opinion every body has there own takes on things this is just my .02 hope i didnt offend anybody

You can argue the morallity of collecting on ad-infinitum..however, I can tell you that ther are more snakes killed in one day on the road in any given state..than would be collected in a year by enthusiasts in that State..Over collecting a particular site can do irrepairable damage..but over-all ...I have never seen any proof that collecting by serious hobbiests..hurts the population..even for financial gain. Just because we may disagree with something from a moral standpoint..does not mean that ther is proof to condemn it from a wildlife management or scientific basis..
with all of the snakes ..run over..shot..chopped up.and gassed (illegally) out of holes..for round ups the weekend herper is hardly a threat..

I think if someone where to collect from many den sites through out an area they would most definitely hurt the wildlife population. All it would take is for a few people to do this in an area and it would not be long before there where very few if any snakes left. People that collect 20 snakes at a time in a area would wipe them out in a short time.
But, just collecting a few snakes from an area I do not believe would hurt much.............Fabian
