I have seen a show that featured a snake with both male and female copulatory organs, however both were not functional. I cant remember what show or what snake this was. Has anyone seen this??? Thanks a million..

I saw a show awhile back that I beleive was Jeff Corwin on the island of Queimada Grande off the coast of Brazil. The species was the Golden lancehead.(Bothrops insularis)I've heard two theories on the subject. One is that they're evolving into something new, and the other is just some stange genetic things going on from inbreeding.(They only exist on this one island and theres aparently thousands of them there.)The latter is probably more likely the case and they will more than likely inbreed into extintion.Maybe someone else has more info? Later, Marty

Thanks for the help, I mentioned it to my zoology professor and he was curious what kind of snake it was. Thanks again. Oh yeh, the imbreeding is probally more accurate although you can never be sure. Some say it may be a vestigial organ in which a few snakes with both had multiplied on thier own millions of years ago and now they have a vestigial hemipenis.
