I have had these snakes before and they are all nervous. Whenever I had one that wouldn't eat, I got pinky mice and exposed the brain to coax the snake into eating. i don't know what the phenomenon was but I had heard of others doing this and sometimes it would work. Also, it doesn't really matter how large your snake is, start with pinkies and expose the brain and then graduate to larger food offerings. Let me know how that works. It worked for me.

I have a Broadband Copperhead that was difficult to get started .Did the deli cup and all that. On one of the posts someone suggested "heating" the pink under a lamp .Once I did that he takes whatever is offered. That may help with a racer.BTW size and northern or southern?

Hey anonymous,
the reason the copperhead ate the mouse when warm up is b/c of it heat-seeking pits that is what it uses to hunt and catch prey. I have that trouble with my amazon tree boas the too have pits. The racer i have is a southern black racer and about 4ft.

Phillip:
I found that racers like birds beter than mice. It should be able to eat a baby chick if you can get one. I used to get them from a farm that wanted only hens and drown all of the roosters that hatched. All of the wild caught racers I had went nuts for them and took them from my hand....or took my hand ...lol
I feed all my snakes a diet of mice/rats/chicks/quail depending on the size of the snake. In nature they get a varity of prey, so I try to keep the food diverse.
If you can't get them let me know, I have plenty. If your parents approve; I will send you a few frozen to try. I work for a company that ships stuff frozen all the time, so it's no cost, or sweat to help you out.
Best,
Al
Let me know...
