i have to say, as a kid i wanted so badly to travel to exotic locals, and see all of the amazing snakes they have to offer, but now days i really appreciate the great herps we have in the south east. im sure in other parts of the world, or even other parts of the country they envy us for our wide variety of herptiles, we have several venomous, even more non venomous, tons of lizards and amphibians and even some crocodilians, pretty impressive if you think about it.

Yeah, I'm from Georgia and am now living in Southern California. I grew up catching Copperheads and Water Moccasins. I even managed to capture a 6 foot Eastern Diamondback. Great reptiles. I now have a Crotalus Ruber (Red Diamond Rattlesnake). I'm kinda new to the West Coast variety. I'm not sure if i like West or East Coast reptiles better. Different though. That's for sure.

I love the Southeast and there is nowhere in the US I would rather be. We have numorous types of reptiles and amphibians. We even house the smallest and largest rattlesnake. We have all four types of venomous snakes in the US. We also have the indigo snake which is the longest snake in the US. We also have such a varity of habitats from mountains to sandhills to Palm/Pine forest. I love this place and I will till I die.

I agree with you all. I love catching cottonmouths, and here in Waycross there are thousands. I have caught over a hundred this year! We have a lot to enjoy. The rattlers are the best the world has to offer!

I spent thirty years in Athens Ga. I grew up there. Great town. I'm almost sorry I left but I'm learning a lot about the west coast variety of reptiles now since I moved to Southern Ca.

Athens 'ey? I'll be sure to stop by Guthries and tell them you said hi. ;-)
~Chris Harper, webmaster (livin' 20 minutes north of Athens) Heck, I was there today.

Chris, I used to eat at Guthries about once a week. Stop by the Varsity and pick up some greasy chilli dogs. That's my other favorite place.
