I'm going down to St. Marys soon for a herping trip and i would like to know where are some good areas for herping around there. I already know of Cumberland Island, Crocked River State Park and near Okefenokee NWF but I want some more spots around there? Does anyone know any others?
Please Help,
Phillip

Croked river produced some of the coolest hots this year for us. Head back in to the river trail around those old massive rotted trees. We saw several canebrakes. Gopher tortises everywhere and even an indigo. In the evening, on some of the walking trails we found many racers and coachwhips. I have to be honest, we hit cumberland twice and didn't see squat.

Where did you find the indigo? Also when did u go down there. By the way how many snakes did you find there anyway. I have only seen one banded water snake and a mother alligator with babies.

We went down in May and I guess we saw 7 maybe 8 snakes. I am not gonna give the exact location of the Indigo because of the poaching but it was the second one seen of the season in that park.

I guess I understand about the indigo I just have been wanting to take some pictures of them. Beside I wouldn't risk taking oneou out of the wild because of the laws that protect them. At least what time of the day was it when you found the indigo to give me some idea to what time of day to look.
Thanks
Phillip

during the heat of the day, we found the canebrakes in the woods inside the old tree hollow, and the indigo was seen in the road about 8 am near the cabins. good luck fellow herper.
