As some of you know, I just acquired a Crotalus, Ruber out of Redlands Ca. He is about 2 ft long and is eating well. He is in about 80 degrees temp during the day and about 70 at night. My concern is, he never seems to settle down into a resting state. When I get home from work, he is climbing the glass of his 3 foot enclosure. He is new to captivity and I am new to this species. Could there be something that i am doing wrong? Is he wanting for something that I am not providing? Or is he just high strung because of being a young snake? A little helop would be appreciated.
Thanks
Clayton

Have you provided a hide box? If not, you should. If he is still restless after that, it is probably due to his new environment and should hopeully settle down.

Yes I have provided a hide box. It is one of those hollow sections of a log that is open on both ends. Is that sufficient or should it be a one way in type of deal that is dark? I push the hollow log against the cage so that is a somewhat of a cave.

Try something a little more dark and confining. If he still does not settle down, he is probably just nervous and will eventually settle down. Just as long as he is feeding and drinking, you are good to go. Good luck!

Thanks Lepidus. I'll try that. These desert variety Crotalus are new to me. I have always been into coppers and water moccasins. Those were the species that were in my eastern locale before I moved to So Cal.
