I am a Christian but also a biologist.
Obviously being religious and studying science will lead to many sleepless nights trying to figure things out. Evolution is not a belief or something that people can discredit anymore. Evolution is real and there is tons of evidence that proves it occurs, simply "change over time". No one can dispute micro-evolution because it has happened several times in recent recorded history.
Evolution and religion do not cancel themselves out to being either one or the other. Christians automatically want to think about the "big-bang theory" whenever they hear the word "evolution". They aren't the same thing. I believe that GOD created everything but I think he took a while to do it and allowed things to change into what they are now.
Anyway, just thought I would add that,
Robert

Very well said jv4man. I too am a Christian. I just encourage everyone to take some time with an open heart and mind and seek out the truth of God. He will reveal himself to you in a way more personal than you could ever imagine. God is real. His word is true. Once you accept Jesus and actually feel his presence, then there is no doubt. There is no other proof that I need. Jesus said, "Blessed are those who believe in me and yet have not seen me." I will continue to pray for each person on this site, that you may one day know the truth. I don't intend this to anger anyone. I just see so many lost people every day that I wish they had what I have. It's a free gift but many refuse to take it.

Wow, this thread has really become productive. I find it fascinating to hear about all these different belief systems. I figured there would be a large gradient, just solely based upon the huge array of people you can meet at a herp show and such. I also must say that I am surprised at some of the slightly more 'liberal' belief systems of some of the members. That sort of did take me off guard, lol. Anyway, thanks a ton for all the great replies so far.
To Jason, I realize you didn't have any bad intentions with your post, but I specifically did not mean for this thread to open anyone on the forum up to witnessing. I think it's great that you have a belief that makes your life seem more fulfilled, I just hope you can accept that not everyone needs or wants that. All that being said, I thank you for your input, but would really like to keep the thread along the lines of what its original intention was: to find out about the other belief systems that are held by members of this herp hobby.

What do you call someone who doesn't believe in the Easter Bunny? What do you call someone who doesn't believe in the tooth fairy? You don't call them anything because it's normal not to believe in them. That's why I do not consider myself an "atheist" because I am not the one required to wear a label for my normality.
How the topic of religion entered into this forum is beyond me, but one sure way to get sides to split is to bring up relgion, politics or antivenom. Believing in a god, spirit or any other make believe image is a state of mind and should remain in the mind of the individual and not promulgated as if a state of mind were a tangible fact to be debated. It's your right to think whatever it is that turns you on, but those private thoughts should provide comfort to you and not discomfort to others who may view them as delusions.

I think it would be a very scary life to live thinking that when I died I would never see my beautiful wife and awesome children again. How depressing is that?????????

There are many things that are depressing, but we have to deal with them. But, there's nothing wrong with pretending that when you die there will be a whole new beginning. All I would ask is that those that believe in such things keep their thoughts private and not encroach into the realm of reality.
