I am sorry for your loss. This also happened to a friend of mine. A little different though. He had a nice atrox by itself in a cage and he went out and collected another and put it in the same cage. Immediately his snake went slowly from his side of the cage to where the collected snake was and took a bite out of her. She lived but it was a bad scene. She swelled up and would not eat for several weeks. It was not a head bite though so maybe that is why she recovered. I doubt this helps you very much but just saying that it does happen, how much? I don't really know. Again, sorry for your loss.
Regards
Clayton

Gee...that stinks..sorry to hear that. Yes, they are immune to their own venom, however, If the fangs hit a vital organ like the Heart, Lungs, or Brain it can be fatal as in the instance. There is always a chance for this to occur when more than one animal is kept in the same enclosure.

I am afraid the fang severed a vain or punctured an organ. Phobos is right, they are immune, just as a kingsnake would be but that doesn't keep them safe from other damage.I do a lot of breeding myself and that is always a concern.
