my question is- why is it "bad" to try and switch king cobras over to rodents? i'm a little confused.i understand they are natural snake eaters..
also,if it is better to feed snakes, where can i aquire food?also, what types of snakes?
i've heard ball pythons are good...
thanks alot for any help!-adam hoyt

Good question. I've heard several people say that snakes are more nutritionally balanced for them, which I don't necessarily discount, but never any mention of any study on it or any reasoning other than "that's what they eat in the wild". Many people have reported thier wild-caught king eating nothing but some particular species of rat snake, and of course there's nothing in a rat snake that didn't come from...a rodent. Of course they retain things in different proportions than rodents and rearrange things into different protiens, but I would imagine that most of those are broken down in digestion anyway. I would expect that the MINIMUM amount of food required to get the required nutrition would be higher with rodents than with snakes, but who doesn't feed 2-3 times the MINIMUM amount? Then there are (tens of?) thousands of people who have been raising king snakes on rodents with no problems.
