i went down to sc this weekend and did a lil herping, only found 3 snakes, but they were some great finds, first snake of the day was my very first encounter with a canebreak in the wild! im glad i wasnt able to find one when i first started herping for hot snakes, i had no clue how quick and agressive they can be, luckily all went well and we parted ways unharmed. second was a pretty eastern chain king, and last but not least was a monster of a cottonmouth, at least 4 and half feet long! the canebreak was about a 4 footer by the way.

Sounds like a great trip. Yes, those Timbers will surprise you when they get riled up.

Sounds like a good hunt! Yes, Canebrakes are fiesty beasts. If you ever pin one and pick it up; be warned they will wait a few seconds once you have them by the head...and then they go aboslutely Balistic!!! Flailing and pulling to get it head free. If your not ready, it will get ya! Also be careful on the release too, have seen some close misses.

Yeah. I remember my first canebrake. 5'3". What part of sc did you go. I plan on going to Aiken sometime soon to find corals and corns. By the way did you spot any alligators.
