I was looking through a hunting catalog and saw something that gave me an idea. They have a small tool called the "Game Finder" this device senses heat differences and helps hunters find downed game. I read the info on it and it looks like it is quite sensitive and can be use through thick brush or int he open.
I was thinking that it may be possible to use something like this while herping. When you found a area that you thought might be good you could scan the area with the finder and hopefully detect something.
I don't know if this would work or not but i'm courius if anyone has tried or thought about this.
Please let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Brandon

Hell yeah. I`d give it a go. Must be realy cool. It could realy come in handy when tracking taged animals when fun isn`t a priority. Give it a go and let us know how it works.

It wouldn't work for the simple reason that reptiles do not produce their own body heat.

That was my first thought, but i have seen where people have used thermal infrared cameras for this purpose. So this could be looked upon as the same thing just much less advanced.

Of what i know the game finders are very sencative, so i dont realy see no reason why it wouldn't work just as good as a thermal camera. like i said before, give it a try and see what hapens, it could be a good aset to have if it dose....i mean think of the animals that you can find that you normaly wouldn't know whare thare..........good luck on trying, and i truly hope it works..........happy herping Wally

BGF is right. Snakes are poikilothermic and there wouldn't be enough temperature differential for the instrument to register. Additionally, snakes hide UNDER objects so the ability of the instrument to detect a snakes presence would be non-existant.
