It appears that he is now the spokesmen for AP on snakes. How many people have seen his other shows and what is your opinion of his shows.
The ones I have seen have been poorly staged and information was bad.
Maybe I am missing something?

I think his shows are piss poor. Short and to the point but that's what I think.

Piss poor is right..
He almost took a hit from a Bitis peringueyi just missed him by a hair. A Snouted cobra (Naja annulifera) nailed him soundly but somehow he lucked out in this case too. He did not get any venom, suprizingly enough. He was in East Africa swinging throuh the trees dropping into a swamp comming out with a large West African Gaboon.
Not the sort of positive presentation Hot snakes really need.

Austin stevens to me is a refreshing face to TV herpers. I think he has a good method of handling and also think that hes shows are more informative than most including the croc hunter. I my self can only think of one other TV herper that captures my atintion more than Austin Stevens, and that is Rob bredl. but thats just my openion. I enjoy watching Austin. In the last show i saw he was looking for green condas in the amazan (he realy seemed to care bout the animals he was dealing with, in the search he ran across a large veriaty of other snakes that he documinted and was begening to get worried that he mite not find the snake he was searching for. In some ways i think he mite be one of the only herpers on TV that dose not have the snakes placed for him. So in my mind hes a good fresh welcome face to TV especialy for AP witch normaly has demwitts as host.....just my openion.

I watch his specials entirely because of the animals he showcases. I am a novice hot keeper, so I don`t have much experience. But he takes way too many risks, in my opinion. He seems to be a thrill seeker and one day he will probably wind up dead, I hope not for his sake. He certainly doesn`t display SAFE handling techniques. But I will continue to watch his shows for the sole purpose of seeing the animals.

I have never much cared for the guy's antics. I saw him on Letterman the other night. He was waving around venomous snakes on stage and Dave was clearly not having a good time with it.

Phobos, you are all wrong about him. he didn`t almost get bit buy the desert adder, he got bit. :))) It was a dry bite though. What kind of idiot get`s bit twice on the same show ? He`s a complete idiot, and I`m not being hard on him. West african gaboon viper in eastern africa...what acomplete moron.

He once stayed in a room with 30 snakes including some cobra, mambas, and goboon vipers. He setted a new world record of over 30 days in there. He got bit by a type of cobra while in the cage. I think he is a moron. And anyone who compars Steve Irwin to him is a idiot. Steve have saves tons of animals from dangerous places. I don't think austin stevens has saved one. Steve tryes to not the piss the snakes off anymore than it is. Austin stevens is trying to get the snake to strike at the camra. That is why he was gotten bit. I really don't think he will last much longer.

He'll last for quite sometime. He has been around for a long time, but is now just getting popular so that people know who he is. The fact is, he's crazy and exciting to watch, regardless of what he says. The average person doesn't care about what he says, they only care about how exctitng he is to watch. He's not the only one who is misinformed about things, every person who has their own show has something different to say about each snake. I believe now there are currently 100 snakes that are #1 on the most venomous list. Hell, even zookeepers and biologists have different things to say about each animal, and doctors, and the press...yada yada. You have to take him with a grain of salt, and just watch his antics for comic relief. He's like one of the guys from MTV's Jackass, you can't learn much from them, but they are interesting to watch.
