I hope you heloderm fans got to see O'Shea last night. That little Mexican village with the little dried out heloderm skins made me sick. And the the DOR Beaded they found next to a machete hacked rattlesnake - Ugh !
If they are going to kill them, someone may as well go down there and offer them $5 apiece for live animals. We don't want to give them any incentive to become "super-collectors", so we couldn't offer them alot of money.
Don't you think they would be better off in the reptile trade than a little dried out skin on a table ?

Did you tape the show? Of course not. Why has everyone (including my girlfriend) seen this episode, yet no one records it. What if I offer a reward? Will that help?
All kidding aside, of course I would rather see heloderms in private collections rather than killed. But the powers that be feel that this should not be.
Do I think that they should openly collect them? No, beacuse it would be a mass raping of the land. But, there should be some limited collecting for the trade and study - a quota with registered personnel. We all know that FWC's around the country are pretty askew when it comes to "saving" wildlife (the infamous story of 20 gilas dying due to FWC's leaving them in the boxes in the sun at the airport, just to let the paperwork would check out). The reality of the situation is that man will enevitably wipe out a vast majority of our wildlife population, and if species are to survive, then we need to study and make sure that when the time comes, we have enough data to keep the species going. Yes, I would much rather see a reptile in the wild in it's own naturalistic environment, but man is growing and building at alot faster rate than the animals are, and until we reach space, development will continue.
My opinion is merely based on what I know - I am not out in the field and I dont know all the facts, so I could be wrong... What do you guys think? Goatsby

As if trying to get "certain people" to turn in their articles for the newsletter wasn't enough trouble. :-)
