What is so special about the jamesons Mamba, I have been looking and have still not found a single picture of one. I have found plenty green mambas and Black mamba pics. But not one pic of that mysterious 4th member of the dendroaspis family? Please help me find a picture!

Allen Hunter's Mamba Information Page is about the best around but it is down for renovations right now. When it comes up, he will have pictures and information on Jameson's Mamba which, as I understand it, is a subspecies of the Green Mamba. Be patient, his information is always top-notch and is well worth waiting for. Karl

Hi Tom,
All the mambas are interesting! ;-) Beside's being pretty much the rarest mamba in captivity - due to the simple fact that most of the countries within it's range were closed for exports for almost 15yrs - it's the only mamba species that has a distinct, officially recognized sub-species, D. j. kaimosae. Additionally, some Jameson's are just plain odd-looking, almost hybrid-like. In fact, in a very small cross-section of range in the far west, some Jameson's populations have been known to inter-breed with D. viridis, which it resembles closely. I finally have one coming soon, finally giving me all four nominates - Yea!
Also, on a different note, I saw your picture of the 'spitting cobra' posted - I'm afraid that's actually a Forest cobra (N.melanoleuca) - notice how high it rears, and how narrow the hood, combined with it's coloration - classic forest. I worked with many of each, and they're very different snakes - forests being my favorite Naja. :-)
Take care-
Allen

Thanks Karl,
The mamba site should be up within probably 3-4 weeks - I'm rediculously busy, so getting the time to work on it is tight. I'm trying to make it brighter (L), more....mmm....textbook-like. I'm still taking a few more pics yet, (especially when the Jameson's comes in), so its still got some to go - I'm about 1/2 finished now. When it's up, I'll post links, for sure.
Allen
