Well Tennesseejed, you seem to have no experience or knowledge with your canebrakes.. Crofab is the antivenom for the North American Pitviper bites.. It is very expensive to personally own, and also depending on what state you live in, it may not be available for a private keeper to own. You do not seem very educated about the snakes you have, so why do you even have them??

Jed:
These questions your asking are the ones you should have asked BEFORE you obtained the venomous snakes not after the fact. What else don't you know about keeping Rattlesnakes?
CroFab costs between $1650.00 per vial and up, depending who much the hospital wants to charge. For a minimal envenomation you would get 6 vials. A single bite with 3 days in the hospital could cost you 10's of thousands of dollars not to mention the "wear & tear" on your body.

> I'm thinking he doesn't know that it's illegal to keep them in Tennesee. Unless of course, he doesn't live there.

My lord, i have never in my life seen so many ppl jump to a conclution about somones question. I thought this site was put here to ask and learn not to blast ppl out of their shoes. If a person ask you bout privetly owning antivinin, why not ask them what state they live in then ask how long they have been keeping venomous snakes and then finaly give them advice insted of critasism......Just my opinion....Happy herping Wally

Yeah, I wouldnt jump to conclusions. I dont see how anyone automatically thought he didnt know anything about snakes. I keep rattlesnakes and I dont have antivenom on hand, but If I ever wanted to get any I would post a question here just like he did. How many people actually buy antivenom and all of that before they get a rattlesnake? Please forget about the critisizm. There are some people on this site that really will answer your question with out all of the baggage. Sorry, I know how it feels.

Herpetocultural ethics command that we inform ourselves sufficiently before we make the commitment to the animal. This is required so that we can promote an environment necessary for the animal to thrive. Such is moreso with venomous reptiles as safety is of more concern. Condescending, arrogant, and egotistical rants are poor methods of instruction, and do nothing constructive for the inquiring interest. Herpetocultural ethics also command that we welcome and embrace new interests.

Emtnurse as to reading over my origanal post i did realize that my wording is wrong it is misleading and its not what i really wanted to say.I have talked to my closest hospital and they dont have it it is approx. 100 to 150 miles to anywhere that could help me but there are 2.As for asking if crofab is the antivenom for these,That was a stupid? Cause i did know this!label me as an idiot,Oh wait you already did,But anyways all i was really wondering about that was about the price and where a private keeper would get it.And by the way i wouldnt think it would be cheap, not too much medically related is.But thanks for telling me its expensive,I ask how much it cost?its expensive isnt an answer!Do you know how much or you using common sense to?
And now that i am inquiring about your knowledge,Do you know what a crotalus horridus atricaudatus is?I am just wondering cause you dont seem to know what a crotalus horridus horridus is!Or can you just not read!!Just for you to know i dont care what you think you arent comin across as the most knowledgable person to me,So i guess you rank right up there in the group of idiots like me.Thanks for nothing EMTNURSE

well tennesseejed, i never labeled you as an idiot.. Your question just seemed to be a question of an inexperienced keeper.. just curious about your safety, no harm or insults intended.. I never labeled you as an idiot, you did that well yourself.
