If Bob has indeed passed my sympathies and prayers certainly go out to his family. It's difficult to believe that someone you knew is just gone, that's a tragedy. Unfortunately, Bob had quite a reputation as a "fibber", this is verifiable on the boi @ faunaclassifieds.com. This is not just my opinion, do a search. I was truly saddened to learn of this side of his character, he seemed like a really nice guy, except for the times he would tell me he's coming over for some snakes and never show....
hence the doubt...

It shows you could die from even non venomous snakes. They have the power to kill you if the bites it infective and causes blood poisonning.

It shows that you could get bit from a non venomous snake and it gets infected and causes blood poisoning and you die. Just the same way he did.

Phillip, this acedent was from a cottonmouth, not a non-venomous species. Yes ppl can die from any kind of animal bite, any animal can cary bactearea in their mouth that could couse a lot of complications, but in this case it was not a bactearial infection from the bite, this was a envenumation.......Happy herping Wally

I was friends with Robert for only a short time....
Have spent time talking with him to the wee hours of the morning sitting in his snake room. Two of the animals in his snake room where once mine....and I was happy to see them in such fine care.
I can tell you with out any reservation that he was the kind of keeper that this hobby needs more of. He did not have a lot of animals, but the animals in his care were very well cared for.
I am terribly saddened by this news... My prayers and best wishes are with his family.

Hi All:
I did not know Bob personally but my thoughts & prayers go out to his family.
It's not that uncommon for serious wound infections to result from a Cottonmouth bite. The nasty digestive qualities of the venom coupled with the common bacterial flora found in the mouths of snakes can produce life threating systemic septic shock.
Furthermore lets keep in mind the point that Jim Harrison made about very serious wound infections involving "Venomoid " snakes that he was consulted to help treat.
Never take for granted that the Physician knows what to do involving a snakebite. Every snakebite patient needs an advocate to insure everything is done correctly. Aggressive prophactic antibiotic therapy is as important as neutralizing the venom.
RIP Bob.....
Al
