Hi,
Ok, I have a situation with one of my young N. Haje's. The snake is about 3 months old or so. He will not eat. Evey time I walk by the enclosure, he hoods up and false strikes, I can tell that they are not real strikes because of his lack of effort. I have another N. haje approximately the same age, and I have never seen hood up, and eats great. I have never had one of these guys not eat!!! This is a first time experience for me, and of course there is very little info on this subject online, so I am turning to all of you. Someone help me figure out why this guy is not eating and what I can do to get him to eat. I have been handling this species for a long time, but still feel like a rookie because of this situation.
A little background on the snake. He is approximately 10 inches long, diameter of about 1/2 an inch. Very inquisitive, and always in defense mode. I put a live pinky in his enclosure 3 days ago, and the pinky is still alive, he goes right up to it, have even seen him crawl right over it, and did not show any interest. (the snake is unsexed, So I am using he for easier typing). I am keeping the enclosures for both snakes at 75-83 degrees faraneight, a bowl of water in the cage and a basking area that gets up to 92 degrees. There is a hide in the enclosure.
Thanks in advance for all your help

Has the non-eater ever eaten for you? My experience has been that baby cobras can be tough to get started...
Things to try: brain a pinky and rub the brains on a live pink & put it with the snake, frog scent, fish scent, lizard scent, brained, chick scent.
Try washing the pink well with warm water before scenting or introducing to the snake...
cover the cage, and leave the snake alone for awhile...
good luck,
Steve

This trick I am about to say is the oldest in the book and it works most of the time, at least for me.
Put the snake in a deli cup with the pinky in the cup. Put it back in the cage over night covered with newspaper or something. Call me in the morning!! :) LOL
This has worked for a few Naja species and a few non-vens.
Later,
~WILL~
