hello everyone! i have decided to create a "rainfoerest" habitat in a 65g aquarium. this will be a showpiece in my living room.i'd like to keep either golden eyelash vipers or atheris ceratophoris in the tank.
my question is,does anyone know how to make a misting system cheap?i've seen it done in some cages,i just don't know how it works?
my next question is,are any arboreal vipers compatible?if so,what species?
can i keep two to three of the same species in a tank(i.e. eyelash's or ceratophoris?)
i appreciate your help.the only thing that would keep from doing this would be the whole living room thing.i do have a locking canopy to stop accidents from happening.
thanks!-adam hoyt (336)282-1020

Misting systems can me in the form of humidifiers on a timer or a sprinkler system. It would depend on the species of snake involved. The same goes for compatability. You might want to narrow the scope a little more.

You can get misting nozzles at greenhouse shops, like the ones used in the produce section. They come in brass and plastic. They need to be plumbed. To me it would not be worth doing for one tank.

Adam, it comes down to safety, only you can decide whether or not you want more than one in an enclosure.
I had a pair of eyelash vipers housed together, it's not rare for people to keep eyelash viper and african eylash vipers (atheris sp.) in the same enclosure. I would stick to the same genus/species....ie. don't mix bothriechis and atheris together.
There are certain trimeresurus species that you may want to house by themselves, purpureomaculatus especially, as they can be pretty aggressive. Like I said, it comes down to how comfortable you are. There are certain snakes that are very territorial as well, wagleri come to mind. So for the snake's safety, you may want to house them alone, or give them a large enough enclosure so they don't come into contact that often. Hope this kinda helps.

Except for breeding attempts, your snakes are best housed alone. I use a vaporizer set on a timer, and throw ice cubes on the top mesh to melt/drip down every morning. The vaporizer is plumbed on PVC and set on timer misting 15 minutes every 4 hours. I can control the rate of flow w/ a ball valve installed immediately before the return. Make sure your humid terrarium is adequately ventilated, and change your substrate if it becomes damp.
