My copperhead only eats brown mice. I thought it would never eat but when we through a brown and white mouse in there with it, it killed the white one and ate the brown one. I think it only eats brown ones because its wild caught.

That seems really weird to me. My copperhead eats like a beast. I have never heard of a picky or finicky copper.
Best of luck

Somehow I think this is a natural thing. I have seen on TV where an albino animal was shunned from the "family". Try food coloring on the smelly little critter. My neo copper head is not a great eater either but we are making progress. I got it to eat a fuzzy that I raised from a 2 white females and a brown male. All 21 babies are brown!
He eats anoles and tree frogs but the mice have been a challenge. I think if yo let it go long enough w/o food it will eat anything IMO it would eat a white one before starving???

I see the same thing also sometimes with copperheads. But after I feed it a brown one or two, they usually start to take white ones. By the way Kyle, when do the snakes and alligators start to come back out down there?

Ya, coppers can be problem eaters. Right now I've got 3 that eat with no problems, live or F/T, one that won't eat anything but frogs, and one that wouldn't eat anything at all until I tried "braining" a hopper. I've read and heard about that but had never tried it until about 2 months ago.Amazed me at how well it worked. Marty

Thats a funny thing.. I used to have a Nile monitor that would only eat brown mice.. Very odd, espically for a predator lizard. Every copperhead I have ever owned, even the ones I own now are picky eaters.. I am assuming because it is hibernation time cause they are wild caught.

Mine was (and may continue to be)a pia but recently ate two fuzzies. One of which it killed and ate about 36 hrs later. It was still digesting a fuzzy fed about 4 days prior and-w-the 2 in it it looked like a cigar. I was happy because if there is a problem I'm sure he is good for the winter months. Anyway it is still small (born in Aug) so it will be fun to watch him grow.
