texas venomous laws

does anyone know what the laws regarding keeping venomous in texas are?( both native and non native) and if needed how to go about obtaining a permit?

The best to my knowledge, you DO NOT need a permit for local and exotic snakes. The timber is a protected species out there, and I dont know about the laws on keeping that certain rattlesnake. I hope this helps you out. But double check, cause some of this stuff changes.. Good Luck.... Bryan

Also, check your local laws. Each city and county can make restrictions regarding venomous. For example, I live in Abilene and if I move just outside the city, I can keep venomous, but I cannot keep them in the city, even though Texas has no venomous restrictions as of yet.

It varies from city to city and county to county. Check with the local herpers in that area for the best information. San Antonio has a "no venomous" policy. Although you can keep them just outside city limits.
