I hope you don`t mind me posting here. I`m not from the U.S.(as some of you know) but I`m gonna answer the question anyway. In my area of the country(Suceava county) the most common snake is the Grass Snake(Natrix natrix natrix), followed by the European Adder(Vipera berus berus) in higher elevations. Actualy theese are the only species of snake that I have found in this county. The Grass Snake is also the most common snake in the country. In the southern part of the country we can easily find Caspian Whip Snakes(Dolichophis caspius-former Coluber & Hierophis). The other 8 species of snake are all pretty rare if not extremely engangered. Where Vipera ammodytes is found(some parts in the south and south-west) it is usualy found in large nombers, as in you could find more than 1 in a day. But that`s not always the case. Happy geographical herping to all-Alex S, Romania.

Yeah, Gopher tortoises live in HazelHurst. That and Jeff Davis are farming towns and that place would be perfect for an Eastern Diamondback or two.

Well here in West Virginia in the mountain counties that i have went herpin,Randolph,Pocahontas,Grant,Pendelelton counties timbers are very abundant and i have seen the most of these the past few years,Theres alot of northern copperheads,And alot of black rat snakes. But the list goes on for the more common species which seem to be everywhere i look. This year i concentrated my herpin to the timbers and went out aimlessly searching for a a northern pine snake which in west virginia only one specimen has been collected, 2 snakes found and killed on the same road on the same day in 1940.So it would be great to find and photograph one of those beautys and corn snakes are pretty uncommon so i look for the unusual Hopefully next year!!But as i said from my past expierence West Virginia is full of herps.
