I know this may seem stupid but I think we should designate one day out of each year to educate the public about snakes. Similar to Earth Day. Just pick a certain day out of the year and everyone who's an active member on this site try to turn at least one person on to reptiles.

Hi, I think that is a great idea. You know, when I was groing up, there was a nature center in my home town and they had a snake day. They had several species of snakes in captivity that they would bring out for visiters. It was kind of like a class where people would come and bring their children to see how snakes behave and be educated. That's not a stupid idea.

At my local nature center they call it a "snake beauty pageant". People in the area bring their most splendid(non venomous) specimens to compete for first place. There's also lectures about the misconceptions people have of snakes and some handling.

In Atlanta, Fernbank Museum does that every year. They have a snake day and everyone from the Georgia Herpetological Society bring in snakes and talk to the genral public. Also it is the biggest event at Fernbank. Over 2000 people come every year.
