When people upload photos, it would be very nice of some of you to be curteous and type in the common name of the snake as well. I dont have a problem with latin names, but I know some of us might. We can give our egos a workout later, but for now lets try to help people learn, o.k.?
~Mr.Drama~ sorry just keeping it real.

There's only one good place on the net to correlate latin names with common names. I wish it were here, but it's not. Try -- www.Toxinology.com

Sorry...but you're in error. No egotism involved, there are just so many common names given for the same snake leading to confusion. The Scientific Name(Latin or Greek)is just an exact way of indentifying a specific snake. I my case, I've been throwing them around for 30 years. It takes practice, get used to it. I'll try to remember to add the most relevant common name in the future.
Yes, I don't recognize some of them too. Plus as systematics improve (Thanks WW et al) the names change to confuse us old timers. If I don't know it I look it up and study..oh yeah schools don't teach that anymore.
Ego sum qui sum.
Sarcasm is only one of the fine services I offer.

I just uploaded some photos recently. And as such, I only used the scientific names. As Al pointed out, this forum is used by those all over the world so one should use the name that is recognized and accepted globally. All it takes is a person to highlight the name in the caption, paste it into your search box and
"ta da", you'll get a whole slew of common names on the search engine I'm sure.
Contrary to what you might think, anyone who knows me personally knows that I am by far least egotystical sole out there, and have little use for those who are. But, in my business, a name is a name, and if it's being used in identifying an animal, it has to be used in its proper context. Personally, I'd rather just call the snake "Bob", would be much easier to remember.

How sad.
Our own "Sierra" put together an EXCELLENT compendium of ALL the species and subspecies of venomous reptiles correlating latin to common names.
Isn't there any way we could make it a page here?

Well dang -- there's Sierra now. Where you been woman!?!
Hmm.What Sierra here needs to do is make that fine piece of work a downloadable PDF file. I looked at my copy earlier today!!!........ And I thought to myself, "Gyah! That was a lot of work. Too bad she left the AO before we could reward her efforts."
[It's not that I didn't notice. I'm just busier than most people would ever imagine. Someone told me the other day, "If you want something done, ask a busy man." Well. They do ask.]
Still have that file Sierra? Download "CutePDF writer" for free from Downloads.com and print it to PDF. Then we'll see how large the file is and work from there. You need to snaz up the cover page a bit though, since you did do all of that work!

Chris....
You know those times when you only see one set of footprints in the sand.... its not that I wasnt with you my dear friend.......I was always there,....always with you......not only in mind and spirit..... but quietly watching and observing....
....however I was riding on your back!!!!!...LOL
No, seriously, I will tinker with it a bit asap. Consider it done..... I put a huge amount work into that list and although its not perfect in every way, I took everyones suggestions ( Mark Oshea WW, and BGF amoung others)and did the best I could with it. It would be an ever expanding/changing and-controversal list....and I do expect to hear many "opinions" if it ever does make the site.....And I'm sure I made a few mistakes here and there as well.
Oh well, you know the old saying...if you want something done ask a busy woman....
I'll work on it.....however, I did set it up in Ms word so it would print out perfectly, and go into a three ring binder with tabs etc. Maybe a downloadable file from the file download page?
