At the requests of several acquaintances, I am reposting this information here for review by the people that visit this site.
This is a horrendous situation.
Karl
Carolina Reptile Exchange--Beware!
------------------------------------------------------
I ordered a venomous king cobra (O. Hannah) from Carolina Reptile Exchange, at 3312 Highway 21, Suite 114, Fort Mill, SC 29715, 803-548-8262. My order was clearly stated and called for an 8 foot, male, Malay phase "NON VENOMOID" O. Hannah. What I received was horrid.
Bruce, from Carolina Reptile Exchange, took four weeks before sending me my order. The excuses ranged from him being in Florida to him being sick. Finally, they called and said it was on the plane. In fact, it came in three days later and I only found out because I know the guy at Delta Dash. Carolina Reptile Exchange would not return any of my calls, which I estimate to be 150 over a 3 week period.
When I opened the box and released it from the bag, the cobra sluggishly went into the hide box. It remained there most of the time, and being a new snake, I didn't want to stress it out by forcing it out. Shortly after I received it, it died. When I examined it, I discovered two fresh wounds alongside the head, an obvious botched surgical procedure. I called right away and as told Bruce was on vacation in Florida. I emailed them and called many times. No one has returned my calls, but their email resposne was, "too bad."
Besides the issue of sending me a dying cobra due to a botched surgical procedure and failing to send me the snake I ordered, the possibility that they sent my venomous snake to someone expecting a venomoid is very likely.
Do not, under any circumstances, deal with this company. I have pictures of the mangled snake if anyone would like to see what they do to their animals. Animal cruelty should be involved and this company should be put out of business....

These morons need to pay!!Though I dont belive that if we boycott them it would do much good.Im sure not too many people here deal with those A holes anyway. The sad fact is they will keep producing and selling sick and dying animals to people who dont know better or who dont care.I also saw the pic and it made me sick!!
If we could get the people at KS to help out a little it might hurt them some.Do we really think that will happen?? I think not. They like Bruce have the almighty$$ in their heads and not much else.

Special thanks to Karl for posting this issue. The "other snake website" squashed the dialog regarding this topic when Mr. Hammer was considering going public with this info.
I am bothered by the botched unethical surgical proceedure but the part that really scares me is that somebody may have a fully "armed" King that they think shoots "Blanks"
This could shut us down in a heartbeat. The outcry from the public would be heard far & wide. Could even spark a call for an import ban.

I to, have been sent a dead reptile from Bruce, at Carolina Reptile Exchange. This past July, I paid $600.00 plus shipping for a Gaboon Viper. When Bruce finally shipped the reptile(two days later than promised),the box that it shipped in had about 5 air holes that were not only covered on the inside with styrofoam ,but also covered on theoutside with "Fragile Live Animal" stickers. Inside the box there were snake turds next to the snake in the bag, as if it were some kind of cruel joke to not only send me a half-dead, hyper-ventalating snake, and snake crap as well.
I was so infuriated,in an effort to avoid going nuclear, I wanted to wait a couple of days before I complained, but their 24 hr. D.O.A garautee required an immediate reply. So after 50+ calls to South Carolina, Bruce finally got his partner,Mark,John?,to
return my call. They Did Not refund the money or give
credit.
Evidently, Im not the only one Carolina Reptile Exchanges Dissatisfied Customers.

This stupidaty could be the one thing that burns down our keeping rights for good. Just think, somone orders a fuly capable Black Mamba, they end up geting a Venomoid, well some kid gets what he thinks is a Venomoid Black mamba, next thing we know "FRONT PAGE NEWS" Boy gets bite by what he thought to be a Venomoid Black Mamba, local Goverment oficials call for total ban on export and all-around sales of Venomous Reptiles. BOOOOMMMM we all lose our keeping rights, out the door they go. We have got to try to stop this crape......A bing thanks gose out to Karl for bringing this back up for the members to see......Be safe ya'll, happy herping Wally

Hey Rodneyrodent,
No offence but you specified that they sent you a dead snake and halfway through your story you said it was a half dead hyperventilatigng snake.well wich one was it dead or half dead because I have had plenty of snakes shipped directly from well respected breeders with no air holes and the snakes were just fine, also I would like to add that if I was sent a dead or half dead snake I would contact the person whom I purchased the snake from imediatly upon opening the shippment.
