I just bought an rock python from a friend. She is 15ft and quite a charmer. Is this snake large enough to eat someone my size. I am 130lbs 30 waist. Should I worry. If it does manage to snag me and begin to injest me, what should I do? Just trying to be prepared.

Hi,your R python is at its average length but they do grow larger especially in captivity. At 15ft I doubt it'll eat you but at that size its more than capable of killing you.Large R pythons are known to eat prey of over 100lbs in the wild.I think your best handling the animal when there are at least 2 of you in the room.Just keep safty in mind and dont leave children unattended with your snake.I gather from your weight you are young?or maybe I'm just fat.Hear in the UK they are contiplating on regisrating large constrictors Burmese P/Green anaconda etc on the dangerous animals liecence. They are big and seem placid but they can and have killed humans, just take it easy.

I've just read the rest of your post,if it does begin to injest you, your all ready dead. The snake will throw a few coils around you and squeeze down on you with a force that you wouldn't beleive.Every time you breathed out the coils would get tighter, you'll soon lose concisnous(asphyxiate)and shortly after woulds all bodly functions would scease its then that the snake makes a meal of you.Is this your first snake?Every time I buy different species of snake I always read up about it first, just so I now wether or not the animal is within my capabilities.Be careful

As said, if the snake ingests you, you're already dead. I think that if you do get wrapped, your best bet at survival will be trying to unwrap yourself from the tail of the snake, as this is its weakest point. Don't try to overpower the snake, becasue you *will* lose. Once you get the snake unwrapped, you still have the snake bite, probably on the head. This will leave some nasty scars, but at least you'll be alive to deal with them.
Interestingly, the book "Snakes: A Natural History" ed by Bauchet, I believe, mentions that there are only one or two confirmed cases of a snake actually injesting a human being, and Python sabae, the African Rock Python, is the snake responsible.
Any wonder whyI preffer small venomous? lol
Cheers
Roger

I know in all cases the snake usually kills first and eats latter. What concerns me is when the snake is eating and you get to close, it coils you and may begin to eat you alive. I know of someone who has had it happen. My shoulders are only 14 inces from end to end. I am curious to know if this python could even manage my shoulders and if it can't would it give up?

Hi 4hooves 14" is nothing,at the end of the day the snake is more than capable of killing YOU.If it eats you after then it does'nt have to eat for another couple of mths.On the following web page are some pics of a large constrictor and its stomach contents, dont go if your queezy or under 18. www.reptileallsorts.com goto main page scroll down to the heading"wierd and unusual reptile facts" and open"want a large snake"AT the end of the day you have yourself a dangerous snake,if it wants to be.Its now up to you to set your guide lines, for me it would be a min of 2 adults in the same room while carrying out maintenance/feeding/or just roaming around your room.

To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't worry about this. If the snake is eating, then it will be preoccupied. My one bit of advice is that you should never smell like food to the snake. THat means that after you feed the sanke you should wash your hands, arms and whatever else. I have had friends who would put their larger pythons (10-15 feet) in footlocker-sized containers for feeding, and would then shut the lid--make air holes, for sure--to minimize the chances of their getting hurt in the process. One friend would feed his pythons using a pair of Pilstroms.
Hope this helps.

I just like to say that it is very possible for a python that size to consume an individual. Yes the snake usually is preocupied with its food, however if you are looking to give the snake anextra snack then this is the time. Don't get me wrong 4hooves, but it sounds to me like you want to be eaten by a mighty python. If your careful you can pull it off and live to enjoy it another time. I know I have. Here's the trick, when the snake goes to take a last swallow of its meal stick your hand or foot into its mouth. It keeps eating until it cant go any further and shortly after slides off. If you desire who body devouring do the same thing but keep a friend nearby for help. If you can't get out of the snakes belly once your in it only takes 12 hours until your in severe pain from being digested. I know, I've been there. If you are further curious email me personally and I'll send you pictures. one@hotmail says happy eating snakes.
