Do you think you are at one with your HOT HERPS? Can you take out your 5' puff adder bare handed and carry it around like you would a burmese python and not worry about being dead? Can you just reach in and grab your "best friend" the forest cobra and treat it as though it were the family dog? Or better yet do you and your Black mamba play cards in the living room floor? I think if your snake tries to bite you, then you shouldn't be keeping snakes. Because you don't treat them right and that's why they try to bite you.
Now I know that sounds just out of this world stupid. But There is someone out there that actually believes and thinks that way. I just thought I would post these emails to see if anyone else thinks the same way I do about this situation. I bleeped out the curse words. Here they are:
Email # 1
I saw your listing on venomousreptiles.org about venomoids, I own hot and not snakes"Venomoids" and I think you are being a little girl about the subject, just because you have "issues" does not mean you should just roll around on the net typeing shi* about anyone you think "DO NOT HAVE GENUINE TRUE LOVE FOR THESE AWSOME ANIMALS!!!!Bobby"
I sit around with my cobras, hot and not out of thier cages and we love each other emensly, just because someone keeps venomoids does not make them any less of a true herp lover. so untill I see you free handeling any type of venomous snake and showing a little faith that they don't bite unless provoked. then maybe you should keep your mouth shut, and use your time to instead concider that all you do is cage these amazing creatures and maybe you're the poser.
Realisticly, Nick and his snakes
My email back:
You are truly the most ignorant person I have had email me yet. In 22 years I have free handled more venomous snakes than you have ever seen and NONE of them were venomoids. I have been bit 3 times by venomous snakes. So I have my history of "stupidity", handling venomous snakes. I hope I don't hear about you being snake bit because of your stupidity.
I disagree with venomoids, because it's not the way God created them. If he wanted them to not have venom, then he would have created them that way. I don't believe in altering anything that God has created, as he created it perfect as it is. Who are you to change what God created? So you think you're God now? I think you had better rethink what you're saying.
Later,
Bobby
Email # 2
god gave us free will, something you like to chastise and put down. and obviously if you've been bitten by a snake then you fall into the catagory of SHOULD NOT PLAY WITH SNAKES. just like most of the wannabe herp enthusiasts i've talked to or met, if your snake hates you enough to bite you then I say there is something wrong with you. my snakes that are still hot have a chance to kill me every day, and don't. because we are friends. sounds like you cage your snakes which god didn't intend. they are wild animals who don't like to be caged(JUST LIKE US) and they bite you because they are more than likely tired of your shi*. maybe you should concider that you just don't have what it takes to be a REAL!!!!! snake handeler
Just for the record, I DO NOT free handle hots and I haven't in many years. I have been bit 3 times, but never because of free handling. I used to free handle anything and everything. I look back now only to realize that God was watching out for me during my "dumb" moments. Needless to say, now I think a person who free handles hots is ignorant.
PLEASE NOTE, I am not posting this to bash this guy or anything like that. I just wanna see what other people think about this. Well, MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!!!
Bobby

Bob:
You can preach to some people all day long and it will make no difference at all. I absolutely agree with you on the subject of Venomoids but what can ya do? As for my way of thinking anyone who drapes an Eastern Diamond Back over his shoulders is in drastic need of a mental evaluation! Hell I dont free handle certain Colubrids.
Sooner or later these NUTS are going to get what they diserve but it will impact us all, and our way of life will take another beating because of some IDIOT that thinks he is a special handler and G-D will watch out for him!!!!
Respectfully Yours

Well guy's...he's in the running for a Darwin Award...just hope it happens before he polutes the gene pool. A bit calus, but what can I say, some people just are not equiped to survive.
I know where I stand with all of my snakes: They will tag me if I give them the opportunity, that's my connection with them. I understand them perfectly.
Al
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

Amazing! Here I thought humans in general would have the common sense to not take something that is knowingly venomous and trapsy around like they're King Kong. Alas, I can now say that I've been hit by a brick wall and didn't even see it coming. Shocked by the comments of this rhetoric, makes me wonder where we are going to wind up. I feel like I'm one with my snakes, but never will you find me "petting" them. I have the utmost respect for their being and the power they have.
One day, this individual will run into an isntance of his newly acquired "venomoid" giving him a nice kiss on the face, hand or some other unfathomable part of the body and it will turn out to be a botched surgical procedure that allowed his snake to retain it's deadly properties. I hope this doesn't do us all in. I thought by checking the posts today that there would be some splendid news, it being Christmas and all, but never in my wildest dreams would I have expected this.
God bless all who do try and pick up their "pets" (sarcasm...yes). I pray that we won't live to regret the consequences of that individuals actions.
Merry Christmas,
Matt
*shaking my head ruefully*

I can say at one time I did free hand some of my hots. BUT I didn't do it because I thought they were my friends and "loved" me enough to not bite me. I have never been bit from free handling. But that doesn't mean they didn't bite me because they liked me.
When I see people who actually think like this guy, it really makes me wonder what's going to happen to the human race in the future.
I just couldn't believe what the guy had to say when I read these emails. I am just wondering how many people out there think this guy is normal.
If there is someone out there that agrees with this "fill in blank" please humor us all... Better yet, Nick please speak up and defend yourself. Explain to us all how you came to think like you do. I am by no means trying to bash you, I am just trying to see the logic in how you think.
Anyway, Merry Christmas to everyone!!!!
Bobby

I have one thing to say to freehandlers that think they are one with their snake. Remember Grace Olive Wiley and how she died. A little history and life lesson.

Well, I don't know why he didn't post on here, but here is his next email.
I would be happy to explain, for all of you who think that your snake is going to bite you just because he's a snake, your wrong, snakes have venom to subdue prey, help digest their food and DEFENSE. that's the magic word DEFENSE. It is hard on a snake to produce more venom after it has struck, so they use it to eat and if you scare them. most people get at least a little nervous when they pick up a "hot" snake, and the snake picks up on such emotion and reacts. the trick is to forget they can kill you, and just treat them with a little respect and TRUST........this seems to be an unfamiliar concept to most of you . which is why I say if you can't free handle your snakes maybe you should look into gettting something with fur.......A cat maybe. because all your doing is dominateing a creature not co-existing with it. and as for my venomoids.......... the same people who cannot co-exist with their "hot" snakes because of their own irrational fear also carry misconceptions about altered snakes. they have not been mutilated or mistreated........Save the exceptions of testostarone seething he-men who think they are equipped to to preform surgery.......This I do not condone, but in a vet clinic with a veterinary surgeon most snakes turn out fine after the operation, and may still digest food as well as the next snake of lizard. As opposed to protesting a snake becomeing a safe pet for someone....... why don't you try protesting something that matters like the rattlesnake roundups that occur every year in which they KILL 1000's of snakes in states like New Mexico, Arizona and Texas...........Beleave me this for more cruel and unacceptable than the venomoids I provide a wonderfull and SAFE home for. the thing the owner of any venomoid must know and accept that they have become all for the snake that's lost his bite. no room for the weak hearted or irresponsable. you can never cut him loose into the wild to fend for himself or neglect him..........but all of my snakes "hot" and not are happy and safe, and it shows. and I say to all of you who are of the opinion that i am not carefull with my snakes because I can trust them. That if you use hooks, sticks and have ever even once pinned a snakes head because of your own fear then you are the one's abuseing and taking for granted the true nature of these animals who are completely capable of emotion and thought. With much love and very little patience, Nick and his FREE snakes
Now I must ask, Nick are you for real? Do you really think like this? How old are you by the way? How many snakes do you have? How do you house them, I mean since they are all "FREE" and all? If you think your snakes "like" you so much, then why do you have venomoids? Are you scared they are gonna bite you so you alter them to fit your needs?
I mean really, help us to understand your way of thinking. I just can't understand how you think all of us are wrong by NOT free handling and you are right because you DO free handle.
I believe in God and I know he watches out for me, other wise I would have already been dead. But it sounds to me like you are Tempting God. You are just asking for something to happen. But that's just how I feel.
Again, I am not trying to bash you Nick, I just wanna see the logic in all this. Until next time!!!!

Bobby,
If this is the Nick you're referring to, I can best say his logic is based on being a complete idiot. And, if this is not the Nick you are referring to, I can still say his logic is based on being an idiot.
And the Darwin award goes to.....
