I DONT SEEM TO HAVE ANY LUCK FINDING INFO ON THE LAWS ABOUT VENOMOUS REPTILES IN NORTH CAROLINA. I LIVE IN MECKLENBURG COUNTY AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THE LAWS ARE IN MY AREA SO I CAN FIGURE OUT IF I NEED TO MOVE. NOT GIVING UP MY COLLECTION. ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
THANKS,
DARRELL

The venomous laws in NC are
Carolina pigmy is protected ( Special Concern)
Eastern Diamondback is protected under (endangerd)
Eastern Coral snake is Protected (endangerd)
The timber rattlesnake is currently going through legislation to be protected but is not at this moment.
Copperheads and cottonmouths are not protected.
Some cities have reptile laws that do not pertain to state laws, You can own any exotic snakes that are not protected. You also are supposed to buy a five dollar permit if you house over 5 native reptiles species.
Hope this helps

I live in Charlotte. I've ordered all laws and info on exotics and have even had the house visited by animal control. If you need to email me you can e-mail to ian.busby@firstunion.com with any specific questions. Its nice to know someone else keeps hots around here. The basics are no venomous or exotics inside the city limits but most police or even animal control are ignorant to what exactly defines exotic or venomous. The only native hots you can keep in NC outside the city limit are Cottonmouths and copperheads. The rest have been added to the endangered list.....Ian
