The snake doesn't know what you're trying to do. I had a guy ask once why his monitor didn't stop biting him after he sprayed its mouth with vinegar during a bite. My reply was that the snake now only thinks "Get away from me you big ugly vinegar monster!... don't touch me... *bite* *bite* *bite*
The simple fact is snakes like to be left alone. Spitters just have a little better way of keeping you away than a bullsnake's hiss or a monitor's tail-slap.

Well, if snakes like to be left alone, why are we messing with them. That is one of the reasons that they are becoming more aggresive. I mean, if we just left them alone, we wouldn't have as many people killed by snake bites

Hi...
Mess with them... If you choose to keep a snake as a pet, then youīll have to take good care of it, right? It really doesnīt matter if itīs a venomous snake or a puppy, they both need correct treatment and none of them has choosen to be a pet...
Handling (a better word for "messing") venomous snakes is sometimes neccesary, even if it is a hugh risk and something I try not to. But, as I said, sometimes I just have to handle my venomous snakes with my bare hands, but most of the times itīs enough if I handle them with my hooks and tongs (witch makes me more happier)...

A venomous snake is a 'looking at' pet. NOT a 'playing with' pet. Yes, sometimes medical care makes handling them necessary, but my point is that handling should be kept to a bare minimum. it reduces risk to both you and the snake. If you want a snake to play with, get a non-ven.
