Can everyone give me tips about looking for snakes in your area? Tell things to look out for and what not to do.
I live in the mountains of north Georgia and some people are coming up here and I wanted to give a few tips that Ive found to work over the years.
1.Looking for good spots in the mountains can be tough because there are alot of hills blocking your view so it is a good idea to find a small tree and climb it to see across the hills and usually you can tell which way would be best to go.
2.In some parts of the mountains, leaves stay on the ground all year and there are alot of copperheads here so it is a good idea to stop every now and then and listen for movement in the leaves or to see if there is one on the ground nearby.
3.Alot of times on a mountain you will have to walk down steep hills. I found that if you walk side ways do the hill(Turn your body sideways but face forward and have your legs facing sideways:) you can get better traction and keep better balance.
4. Watch for steep cliffs. A few times Ive been looking for snakes and came to a sudden drop off that would most likely kill you if you were to fall off. Take extreme caution around these areas. You can tell when you are close to a cliff because you can see where the trees stop in the distance.
5.Ive found a few different types of terrain up here. There is the pines forest(tall pines, the ground is covered with pines needles and a lot of logs and debris on the ground and fallen trees.)Around my house, this habitat is good for the eastern milk snake, and copperheads.:The steep hillsides with boulders and rocks:(this area is good for copperheads, timber rattlesnakes, eastern milk snakes, black rat snakes,worm/ringneck/and dekays snakes, black racers.:Hardwood forests with a ground cover of leaves:(this area is good for copperheads, timber rattlesnakes, corn snakes, black rat snakes, black racers, eastern garter snakes,worm/ringneck/and dekays snakes,: The mountain streams:There are mountains streams in my area that range from small to medium in size, sometimes leading to a pond or lake.(this area is good for, Nerodia sipedon,Black racers, copperheads, eastern garter snakes, ringneck snakes, common snapping turtles,.:
The valleys:In my area you can find valleys at the base or in between mountains. Ponds and creeks are common in this area:(this area is good for black racers, eastern garter snakes, common snapping turtles, copperheads, black rat snakes, eastern king snakes:)
6.When walking through the mountains,Keep a close watch out for black bears. Ive had some close encounters with black bears,. Most didnt seem to aggressive and was quick to run down the hill away from me, but sometimes Ive seen a mother with some cubs and I had to stand still. She stood up and smelled the air. I stayed still and she walk away when she didnt sense danger.
Hope this helps if you find yourselves in the mountains.

Sure, just look under logs, rocks, etc. Also look around water deposits in the mountains. If you see another bear, be sure to jump on its back and smack it in the ass. If she has cubs, then grab one and run. I have found so many snakes this way. BUT, dont be like Phillip and try to make love to it. He got so many scratches it was a gut buster, or his case, a "nut buster"...lol

I jumped on ones back before and it turned around and gave me the best time of my life. It was getting hot and heavy and then another bear came along and took her from me. I always walk these hills in search for my only true love. I dream of the day we can meet again and finish our little rendevous. If anyone is up here and sees a bear tell me.(her name is Pricilla, she is about 5 feet tall and grunts when she walks,Her eye color is brown and she smells like fine Arabian perfume. She sometimes goes by the name "chops"but I usually just called her my lover. Again, she is an american black bear(Ursus americanus)
Pricilla, If you are listening, I love you. I dont care that we are different species, I CANNOT deny love. I didnt know these feeling exsited until I met you. Please come to me, I beg of you. If you want me to I will shave like you told me. I miss every thing about you, your claws, your coarse hair, your smell, your big teeth(you sure know how to work around them). I wont sleep until I see your face and hold you in my arms. I love you.......Jeremy.
