Midwest plans to announce the winner in April. There's still time to submit your application. And like I said before, video tapes will definitely help. ~CH
Free 10 Day Trip to Peru
Come join a conservation biologist/herpetologist with more then a decade of experience in the Peruvian Amazon and discover the magnificent reptiles and amphibians of one the most diverse rainforests on the planet…the mighty Amazon! You may discover for yourself rare tree frogs, poison dart frogs, magnificent snakes such as the bushmaster or emerald tree boa, caiman, and possibly the legendary giant serpent; the anaconda. This is a primeval forest, where several hundred species of lizards, frogs, snakes, caiman, turtles and many other wonderful species await you in this herper's paradise…maybe even a NEW SPECIES! You will also see Pink River dolphin, primates, parrots, and more bird life then you can photograph! This isn't a dry scientific study…this is a hands-on, get muddy, wet and up to your ears in reptiles and amphibians adventure!
Besides the magnificent herps and other wonderful wildlife, we will also check out the local cultures and night life of Loreto, Peru. We will stop at several river villages, possibly an indigenous tribe and most certainly the local flavor of Iquitos, Peru.
This is no 7 day tour offered by others…this adventure lasts for 10 herp-filled days and takes you to jungle lodges and on a live-aboard boat up the Amazon and its tributaries. Your 10 day adventure will begin on your flight from Miami to Lima and then straight away to the jungle port of Iquitos, Peru. From Iquitos you will embark on a live-aboard boat that will transport you to the untouched areas of the Amazon and its tributaries. We will spend days and NIGHTS searching through pristine rainforest for herps that most people only dream about or see on TV! We will then return to Iquitos where we will venture to the rare white sand rainforest of the Allpuahya-Mishana Reserve in search of more species of spectacular herps…and maybe discover new species as this area is poorly studied! Past trips have encountered the RARE Fringed Leaf Frog, Fer-de-Lance, Bushmaster, Black Caiman, Anaconda, Poison Dart Frogs, Caiman Lizards and MANY more amazing rainforest species.

I'll tell you what I'll do.
Just to be fair, I'm not going to enter.
I am going to count on Uncle Sam to send me to some foreign part of the world in the cold non-herping season for my foreign herp fix for the next 2 years just to give everyone else a shot at this.
HOWEVER...
Once I enter the ranks of retired Navy, stand by because I will be entering every herp trip around.
Seriously it looks good and I checked...and Yes The Boss did enter whilst I was away in California.
I think she just wants to have the chance to be out in the woods with BGF ;-)

The "judges" at Midwest will choose a winner based on submission data. That's why I have been recommending that people send in video tapes.
