Hi I've just received a copy of "Australian Animal toxins, the creatures, their toxins and care of the patient". by SK Sutherland. On the chapter about Pseudechis australis it mentions the following " John Cann (pers.comm.1986)reported a remarkable 1350mg yield from a 2.5m P. australis. Three subsequent milkings at three, four and five months respectively after this initial milking produced 580mg, 920 mg and 780mg." WOW! But this was an exceptionaly large animal. Did you get a reply from your email? Let me know if you find anything on the King Cobra. Thanks
John

We have a couple 10 and 12 ft kings that yield 1gram dry weight per extraction.
We had a Crotalus adamanteus yield 1.9 grams of venom in one extraction. It was a 5 ft animal and captive born here at the zoo.

Thats an impressive yield from the Eastern, was that a one off milking or does it regulary produce high yields, not necessarily in that amount. Thanks for the info on kings, I was only able to find records of 350-500 mg. Whats the largest amount you have been able to extract from a Bitis gabonica?

Bitis about 300mg to 400mg is what our animals produce. The Crotalus in question averages about 700mg to 900 mg. It has abnormally large venom glands.
Al your right better a vial then me. This snake is one of the most laid back Crotalus I have worked with. It only attempts to bite when I grab it. Most of the time it just sits there.
We actually have the extraction on video tape and Kristen is probably going to write up a note to be published in SSAR on it.
