Ha, I actually started at the age of 13. I bought a little cage from my teacher at school and kept a common brown in it out in the bush behind our home. My parents found out later and said that they would make me a deal. They said that I could keep snakes in the house If I agree to never touch venomous snakes. My mum was alright with non-venomous snakes because she had a snake growing up.
Serpent, I am trained for the responsibility of keeping. I have never been envenomated or seriously harmed. I never feel that I am "in to deep" and I take it one step at a time. The tubes are fairly new to me. Like I said, I have the old way of thinking. My snakes are all healthy, and I am proud to say that I have never had a snake die in my care.
Tod, waiting for the next doubter.

Joe:
I saw that too but I choose not to say anything about that fact.
Tod:
Your new to this forum and we welcome you. Let me use the following example, I'm NOT saying that you fall into this catagory, it is just an example,so you can understand some of our hesitation believing everything we see on this site.
Members have seen others posters appear, make wild claims of being gods gift to snake keepers knowing it all. This person also claimed to be keeping hots at a very young age. However, contrary to his claims of "Knowing it all" he asked very basic questions, like the one your asked.
He finally disappeared with somebodies money and did not deliver the snakes promised, thus committing fraud. I knew everything to do with this character smelled foul.
I suggest that you update your profile as many of us do periodically, so it reflects what is currently kept, not what you have kept in the past.
Cheers!
Al

Anyone that keeps snakes for along time will have something die. It seems strange to ask a question then come off as if you have more experience then those you asked.
My question is do you have your own antiserum?

What the @$%#. What's with everyone getting irate at someone who wants to learn. Alot of keepers today are self proclaimed "experts" and shun any advice. They know it all and would never think to ask a question. Me on the other hand have some more that I would like to learn and I reckon I will be learning for the rest of my life. I will admit, I am stupid when it comes to tubing. Just because I don't know about tubing, mostly because I have never had to use a tube, does not make me an amatuer who is too stupid to keep snakes. Do I keep my own antiserum, currently no. Have I kept it in the past? Yep. I am in Florida now with family because someone close to us has died. All of my snakes are in AUS with my best mate. I am really enjoying the Southeast's wildlife. I was I did a search on the net about the southeasts venomous snakes and I found this website,a good one might I add. But If you guys want me to leave I will. I don't know if you already have a steady community and I am interfering with routine. I'm here to boost my understanding. I really want to find some snakes before I have to sail on my way. It's been warm here, but I only have 3 weeks until departure. I guess I will have to learn to tube on my own just like I did everything else. People today are uptight about sharing knowledge.

Everyone assumed you were keeping snakes in FL, I am sure.
Your best bet, to learn tubing is to contact Tanith Tyrr at SNakegetters---she rescues a lot of mambas. ALSO, go visit George Van Horn at St. Cloud Serpentarium down below Orlando. His venom extractions are worth seeing, but he'll give you tons of advice on working mambas.
My only questions, is how difficult was it to get a mamba back into Australia? or are you trying to get one?

Are you taking your snakes back to Aus.? Keeping mambas or any other venomous snake should mean having your own antiserum. That is my opinion .

It's a shame, but Allen Hunter had an awesome website up specifically dedicated to keeping Mambas. He's out of the hobby now, but man it was good. If any one knows where its archived, maybe they could post it????

I'm here, kind of on vacation/death in the family. Me and another friend run a personal facility. We just house snakes for our own personal enjoyment, we don't sell or anything like that. Thank you for the advice, I don't think that I will get to make it down to Orlando. Jharrison, it is up to the keeper whether they want to keep antiserum or not. If you don't want to answer my question do not respond.
