Can anybody tell me which are all the exact measurements that need to be done on the field for the snakes? I need them desperately.I would be greatful if anyone could give them 2 me!!!

The standards are Total length (TL), Snout to Vent length (SVL), and Tail or Rattle length when appropriate. (keep in mind that tail and rattle lengths will vary as these are never 100% across the board). Head measurements are also applicable in some studies.
I used a squeeze box many times for my timbers ala Brown-Galligan/Dunson(1979). Worked well for some applications but not very portable and practical in the backwoods.
Really, it all depends on what your study calls for as to what measurements you will need to take, and how accurate those will need to be.

I posted a pic of one method a while back in the "field" section, page 24. It the squeeze box methods the use a rolling map measuring device to get your reading. I used a grease pencil to mark the head width on the plexi as well, just don't press to hard or you'll naturally get really distorted results . It's an okay method if you are really going to do a complete workup, otherwise it's a little cumbersome to haul it, or snakes around.
